Texas Gateway Project
Connect major gas production areas to high-demand markets in southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana
Support industrial and utility users along the Gulf Coast
Strengthen system reliability
Promote energy security and long-term economic development
Project overview

The Texas GatewayProject is a major infrastructure initiative to enhance natural gas transportation capacity and system reliability across Texas, Louisiana, and the Gulf Coast.
The project includes the construction of approximately 155 miles of new 36-inch and 42-inch-diameter pipeline, a new compressor station in San Jacinto County, TX, and modification to the existing Carthage Compressor Station in Panola County, TX and Magasco Compressor Station in Sabine County, TX.
By connecting natural gas supplies from key productionbasins the project will support growing power generation needs and improve energy delivery to homes, businesses, and industries.

The Texas Gateway Project will expand Gulf South’s system capacity and regional connectivity through new infrastructure across Texas and Louisiana. Designed to transport up to 1.8 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) of natural gas.
Key project components
- 155 miles of new 36-inch and 42-inch natural gas pipeline
- Counstruction of the new Cleveland Compressor Station in San Jacinto County, TX
- Additional compression at the existing Carthage Compressor Station in Panola County, TX
- Additional compression at the existing Magasco Compressor Station in Sabine County, TX
Construction / operation / safety
The Texas Gateway Project will be constructed and operated in accordance with safety and engineering standards established by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). During construction, qualified inspectors will oversee each phase to ensure compliance with safety protocols, including thorough testing of equipment and systems before facilities become operational. Compressor stations will be equipped with emergency shutdown systems and monitored 24/7 to track gas flow, pressure, and equipment conditions.
Operational safety will be reinforced through regular inspections and maintenance to detect and address potential issues early. Gulf South also engages with local communities through public awareness programs, providing safety information and emergency contact details. Compressor stations are designed to minimize risk to surrounding areas and include features such as automatic and manual valves for rapid isolation, as well as coordination with first responders to ensure preparedness.
Environmental considerations
Gulf South is committed to responsible environmental stewardship throughout the Texas Gateway Project. Compressor station upgrades and new construction will be designed and operated in accordance with federal and state environmental regulations, including permitting and compliance requirements set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other relevant agencies. These standards help ensure that construction and operations are conducted in a way that protects surrounding communities and natural resources.
Noise management is also a key consideration in the design of compressor stations. Gulf South will implement noise-reduction technologies to maintain sound levels within federally accepted limits at nearby noise-sensitive areas. Noise surveys will be conducted before and after construction to verify compliance and ensure that operations remain unobtrusive to surrounding communities.
Project timeline
The following represents the anticipated project timeline and is subject to change based on required regulatory review and approvals.

The interactive timeline below shows the most recent milestone reached and will adjust as additional phases of the project are completed.
Construction updates
There are no construction updates at this time, as construction for the Texas Gateway Project is anticipated in 2028.
Partnering with communities every step of the way
Gulf South is committed to maintaining open and transparent communication with communities throughout the development of the Texas Gateway Project. From early planning through construction and operation, we prioritize listening to local voices, addressing concerns, and building long-term relationships. Our team works closely with stakeholders to ensure the project reflects shared values and supports regional energy needs.

Community investment
The Texas Gateway Project is designed to deliver long-term value to communities through both infrastructure improvements and economic contributions. Construction activity will support local jobs and businesses, while ongoing operations are expected to generate approximately $4.8 million in tax revenue across impacted counties and parishes beginning in 2029. Gulf South pays property taxes on its facilities, which help fund local services like schools and county programs. In addition to these direct investments, Gulf South aims to support local priorities through charitable giving, education initiatives, and partnerships with community organizations.
Project support
The Texas Gateway Project has received strong interest and support from stakeholders. Its benefits—ranging from increased energy reliability to economic growth—are recognized by local leaders. Check back here in the coming months for illustrations of our project supporters and how they are helping shape the future of energy infrastructure in their communities.

Regulatory review and public participation
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) oversees and authorizes interstate natural gas infrastructure to ensure projects are safe, environmentally responsible, and in the public interest. Gulf South’s Texas Gateway Project will undergo FERC’s Section 7 review under the Natural Gas Act, which governs the approval process for constructing and operating interstate natural gas facilities.
FERC’s Office of Public Participation (OPP) is available to help anyone learn how to engage in a FERC proceeding—whether that means understanding the process, finding information on a specific docket, submitting comments, or intervening.
For more information on how to get involved in the FERC proceeding and for resources on the OPP, visit Gulf South's Project Public Participation Page.
